Charlie de Melo used to date his former Coronation Street co-star Nicola Thorp, it has emerged.

The 29 year old, who is best known for playing Imran Habeeb on the hit ITV soap, was friends with 32 year old Nicola for 10 years before their romance blossomed on set.

Nicola starred on the show as evil villain Pat Phelan's daughter Nicola Rubenstein, joining in 2017 and making regular appearances until early 2019.

Hunky Charlie also joined the soap in 2017, with their romance blossoming on set as they spent long hours together on the cobbles, sharing a number of photos together on social media.

But it appears that Nicola's brief departure from the soap in the summer of 2018 put a strain on their romance, with them deciding to "cool things down".

A source told The Sun at the time: "Nicola's brief departure from the soap earlier this summer put a strain on their relationship, even though she's returned to the cobbles now.

"They've decided to remain pals – although they aren't hanging out as much platonically as they they did before they were a couple and have been tending to go to separate.

"As long as it doesn't get awkward at work they're happy, that's their main concern, they also won't be flaunting any new partners in front of each other, they plan to be very professional."

Nicola went on to admit that starring on the soap had effected her love life, telling Daily Star after her exit: "I've used dating sites in the past and they can be brilliant, especially if you're busy working.

"I've met some really interesting people even though it might not have worked out romantically, we've become friends.

"It's funny because I've been out recently and have had a good-looking man look at me in a bar, and then I'd pluck up the courage and confidence to go and say hello, and I'll get: 'Aren't you Phelan's daughter?’

"And I'm like: 'Damn it! I thought you were going to ask for my number but you just want a photo to show your nan.'"

It was announced earlier this week that Coronation Street will be debuting episodes online during the Euro 2021 tournament.

The football competition will air from 11 June to 11 July, meaning our favourite soaps are being moved into different slots of the TV schedule.

ITV have now revealed that both Corrie and Emmerdale will be moving on to the ITV Hub in the form of boxsets so fans can binge watch the week's worth of programmes.

Each Monday, six episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be uploaded online so they can be watched in one sitting – or spread out across the week to avoid the footie.
