Disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein is in the dumps and doesn’t get why the jury convicted him, his spokesman said.
“He doesn’t understand how the jury didn’t understand that he’s not guilty of these crimes,” said Juda Engelmayer, who visited Weinstein Friday at Bellevue Hospital, where he’s been held since Monday when a jury found him guilty of one count each of criminal sex act and rape.
He’s passing the time reading books about Winston Churchill and chatting with his two young kids, the spokesman said.
“He’s not in the best spirits,” said Engelmayer, who spent an hour and a half with him. “He’s emotionally down, he’s mentally down. He’s in a prison. Let’s dispel any notion he’s in some cushy place. His hospital room is a cinder block room with a hospital bed and a very wide open stainless steel toilet with no lid and open glass windows all around. Any cops or hospital staff can see in when they walk by.”
Weinstein has also spoken to his ex-wife, Georgina Chapman, with whom he shares two children, a source said. Chapman has since moved on with actor Adrien Brody.
Doctors ordered a CAT scan for Weinstein Friday but it wasn’t immediately clear why, the source said.
The Department of Corrections isn’t taking any chances, especially on the heels of Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide last summer while in federal custody awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, sources previously told The Post.
A member of Weinstein’s legal team, Arthur Aidala, didn’t immediately return a request for comment.
