OUR home-office printers have been working serious overtime in lockdown.
Whether it is to run off the kids’ schoolwork, papers for your business or just the questions for a Zoom quiz with mates, we would be lost without it.
Here are some savvy tips for kitting out your home office for less . . .
NICE PRICE: The Canon Pixma All-In-One printer is £34.99 at studio.co.uk. But for even more convenience, HP’s Deskjet 2622 wireless printer costs the same at argos.co.uk.
As well as connecting to mobile devices, it comes with two months of HP’s Instant Ink service included, saving more in the long run.
SAVVY CARTRIDGES: As mentioned above, HP’s Instant Ink scheme can you save you 70 per cent on cartridges.
For example, the HP Envy Photo 6234 All-In-One wireless inkjet printer is £69.99 at currys.co.uk right now, down from £89.99,
It comes with a seven-month free trial of Instant Ink. After the trial, subscriptions cost from £1.99 a month but you can opt out if you prefer.
PICTURE PERFECT: You need the right paper to print family photos. Get 50 sheets of Kodak glossy printer paper for £7.49 at currys.co.uk or instead head to wilko.com, where two packs of 20 glossy sheets cost £5, saving £2.49.
EVERY LITTLE HELPS: If you have a printer for “everyday” documents, don’t fork out £4.25 on 500 sheets of HP everyday paper at tesco.com. Get 500 sheets of Tesco basic paper for £2.95. It does the job just fine.
MAINTAIN: Setting up your printer in the right place is essential to its maintenance.
Adam Bennett of digitalid.co.uk says: “Make sure your printer is in a dust-free environment where it is not exposed to unnecessary heat or dry air.
“Also, print regularly and ensure it is turned off and safely stored when not in use.”
MY TIP: Keep your printer out of the way so people don’t bash into it and keep it in tip-top shape with regular dusting.
