When a This Morning guest revealed his little boy’s nickname on the show, his unexpected choice of comments prompted some to compare him to The Office character David Brent in a throwback clip.
David Brent, played by comedian Ricky Gervais, was known for his risqué comments as a boss in the Slough office.
Talking about his son’s medical condition with presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, the dad said: "His grandad’s… he’s my little chunky monkey isn’t he.
"And we call him chunky monkey," he said affectionately.
The dad then prompted his son: "What’s your grandad’s nickname for you?"
"Fat boy one ear," the little boy smiled, as the dad insisted he "loves it".
In a comparison to the comedy show’s lead character, a meme account reposted a video of Brent saying a remarkably similar line.
"And he loved it, cos it was nothing vicious! You know," Ricky Gervais’ character teased.
Commenters were divided over the dad’s choice to reveal his son’s nickname on live TV, but were in hysterics over the comparison to David Brent.
One shocked person asked: "WTF?!? Why would you say that on the tele for christ sake!!??"
"Pure Brent," another declared.
"Yeah he loves it so much," a third said uneasily.
While a fourth enjoyed the comparison, laughing: "proper belly laughed at that."
"Watched it a few times today," a fifth wrote, followed by: "He was a great detective and a fine actor."
Other people were really alarmed by the comments, as one simply added: "Bit brutal that."
The controversial nickname wasn't picked up on by Holly and Phil who tried to been the interview going as planned.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
