Tom Sachs to Launch "Retail Experience" in Tokyo Following COVID-19 Postponement

Back in March, Tom Sachs announced that he will launch a pop-up exhibition titled “Tom Sachs: Retail Experience” at Isetan Shinjuku in Tokyo, Japan. The event was postponed due to COVID-19 and was initially scheduled to kick off on July 4. Now, the acclaimed American artist announces the new dates for the event that is set to take place from September 29 to November 30, 2020.

For the presentation, Sachs will purvey a new range of bricolage pieces, furniture and collaborative products. Signature home decor such as the artist’s unmissable Shop Chairs, Shop Tables and Command Service Module Lamps will be up for grabs alongside other household amenities. Moreover, Sachs’ handmade Chess Set that has long been sold out in his web shop will be on sale in a limited edition run. Apparel offerings will also be available including caps, tees and accessories featuring official Tom Sachs Studio branding. The artist will also mount new artworks in the store’s 12 windows alongside revealing two new video works at the venue.

The Isetan presentation was originally conceptualized last year when Sachs visited Japan for his “Tea Ceremony” exhibition at Opera City Art Gallery in Tokyo. During his trip, the artist met with the Isetan team to go over the pop-up show. “We chose the Isetan Shinjuku store because of our love for Japan. Our values of hard work, craftsmanship, dedication, respect and ‘love’ are met and exceeded in Japan,” said Sachs in a statement.
