We tried Pizza Expresss £25 five-course deal – and theres only one thing we didnt love

Christmas is an expensive time of the year with constant meals out, catch ups over drinks and presents to buy.

Which is why, when we were invited to sample Pizza Express's extremely affordable five course Christmas tasting menu, we had to give it a try and report back.

For just £24.95, you can fill enjoy an impressive five courses from the restaurant chain. And you can't argue with that value, so I put on my stretchiest black leggings and baggiest jumper and headed to my nearest branch in Birmingham's Harborne. I wasn't going to let a tight waistband hold me back today, no way. (Imagine that last bit in Love Island star Chloe Burrow's voice).

You can also opt for the premium drinks pairing for £13.95, which gets you a Prosecco, wine and shot of limoncello. It's Christmas, so why not?

After a long deliberation I opted for Marinated Green Olives, a fancy grilled aubergine dish called Melanzanine and a Padana Natale pizza, which has Goat's Cheese and Caramelised Onions. You may think I'm crazy but I can't deny that they are my favourite pizza toppings. My second favourite? Pineapple and ham. Yes, lock me up and throw away the keys if you must.

Everybody gets dough balls as standard, which should be a UK law. And to conclude, I had the Caffè Reale, which was mainly to impress the Italian waiter.

The plan quickly backfired though as I realised I don't like the main ingredient – figs.

Aside from that, every course was better than the last and I pushed myself to my limits to eat every last crumb.

Don't just take my word for it though. I was able to get an exclusive interview from another diner the following day – the owner of Scooby Shutters Limited Karl Copson, who also just happens to be my dad.

"Well, it was very Italian. I know that sounds mad, but it was very authentic," he explained.

"Obviously the food was fantastic. You'd feel safe recommending it to anyone. You know what you're getting with a Pizza Express.

"Tell the readers that they must go down the classic route for the base and brush up on pronunciations in case they get an Italian waiter like we did."

"The olives were fantastic," he blurts out.

"By the time we'd finish the appetisers and starters you were wondering if had room for the pizza.

"If you like pizza and you like Christmas you'll love this. Can't think of anything else to say, but I think I did pretty well there," he concluded before heading out the front door for his dentist appointment.
