Where are the Knight Rider cast now – cancer battle, museums and music success

Knight Rider appeared on TV screens from 1982 until 1986 and was one of the era’s most popular shows.

The Hollywood action crime drama series, which was created and produced by Glen A. Larson, saw David Hasselhoff star in the lead role.

Hasselhoff played Michael Knight, a high-tech modern crime fighter.

Knight was assisted by KITT, an artificially intelligent car, which was nearly indestructible.

In addition to Hasselhoff, some of the other familiar faces from the show went on to have huge success, while others have since appeared sporadically on screens.

Daily Star has taken a look at what the cast of Knight Rider have been up to since the show wrapped.

David Hasselhoff

Following his lead role in Knight Rider as Michael Knight, David Hasselhoff went on to star in the 80s cult classic Baywatch where he regularly flaunted his abs on the beaches of Los Angeles.

From 1975 to 1982 he also appeared as Snapper Foster in the Young and the Restless.

In 1991 Hasselhoff returned for Knight Rider’s spin-off – Knight Rider 2000 – and he continued to act in various movies and TV shows including the 1998 TV and movie Nick Fury: Agent of SHIELD.

It was in the early 2000s that Hasselhoff’s work became increasingly self-referential where he would often appear as himself in fictitious TV series and films including the 2004 SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, the 2012 movie Piranha 3D, episodes of the West Wing as well as the 2017 action comedy Killing Hasselhoff.

Aside from acting Hasselhoff has been making music. His latest album “Party Your Hasselhoff” is due to be released on September 3 2021, his website states.

William Daniels

Starring next to Hasselhoff was William Daniels.

Daniels was the voice of criminal fighting car KITT and returned to fulfil the role in Knight Rider 2000.

Daniels maintained the voice of KITT for two episodes of the Simpsons, the Lego Dimensions video game and the 2006 comedy The Benchwarmers.

However, Daniels is best known for his role as Mark Craig in the drama series St. Elsewhere which he was in before during and after Knight Rider and for which he won two Primetime Emmy Awards.

Daniels continued to act in smaller roles in TV and movies but found a new generation of fans as Cory Matthews teacher in Boy Meets World, and would later return the role in the spin-off series Girl Meets World in 2014.

Rebecca Holden

Rebecca Holden played April Curtis during the show’s second season with her last episode being the penultimate one of the season.

Holden played KITT’s gorgeous mechanic and FLAG’s lead designer, seeing her take on a motherly role to the car.

After leaving Knight Rider, Holden kept her acting career going and in the late 80s had one off spots on TV shows including Cheers, Matt Houston and a three-episode recurring role in Night Hospital.

Much like Hasselhoff, Holden pursued music and started touring with a country band in 1986.

The band charted two singles for TRA-Star Records in 1989 – The Truth Doesn’t Always Rhyme and License to Steal.

She continued performing and recording music into the early 200s, with videos appearing on TNN and CMT.

Edward Mulhare

Edward Mulhare portrayed Devon Miles in both the original series and the Knight Rider 2000 TV movie.

While Miles and Knight did not initially see eye to eye in the TV series, Miles became a paternal figure to Knight as the show went on.

Prior to his time on the show Mulhare had a career spanning four decades and was well known for his starring role in The Ghost & Mrs Muir (1968) as well as appearing in the movie Von Ryan’s Express (1965), a World War II adventure.

KITT the car

As you can imagine there was more than one KITT used throughout the series and subsequent movie.

In 2017 Newsweek looked into what happened to the different KITTs and found that 14 to 16 Pontiac Trans Ams had been owned and used by the studio.

Most of these vehicles were acquired at $1 a piece after a train transporting Pontiac Trans Ams derailed in 1983.

None of the cars were damaged and California state law deemed that none of the cars could be sold to road users.

General Motors sold the cars to Knight Rider with the agreement that they would be destroyed after filming.

Once the series finished the studio rented a crane and smashed all but five cars.

The remaining cars were tracked down by super fans. One is now in the UK and two others are in museums in Indiana and Miami.

The super fans were able to purchase the remaining two.
