ED Sheeran's new single Afterglow is on course to knock Ladbaby off the top spot for Christmas number one.
The singer, 29, who took a break from singing around a year ago, took to Instagram to share his new song with his 31.7 million followers.
And the fact he's decided to release his tune this week means that he has a chance of bagging this year's Official Christmas number one, which will be announced this Friday (25 December).
Yesterday it was reported that Ladbaby's Don't Stop Me Eatin' is currently on the top spot – but in a matter of four days anything can happen.
The YouTubers, who scored 80,000 chart sales after 48 hours and are hoping to gain their third consecutive number one, will certainly have to watch out.
The likes of Jess Gylnne, Mariah Carey, WHAM! and Liam Gallagher have also got their eye on the top spot, but Ed's huge fanbase certainly means he has an advantage.
Earlier today Ed released his first single after taking a break from his singing career last year.
He posted a video of him singing his new track on his social media platforms, and made it clear to fans that he's still got dad duties to attend to, before he starts making music again.
He wrote: "Hey guys. Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you.
"It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love, and hope you love too. Enjoy!

"Have a safe and happy festive break and New Year’s. Back to dad land for me now, ciao x."
The exciting release comes just a day after he'd teased a release of something new, and promised fans a "Christmas present" in a cryptic post.
He took to Instagram to share a photo of the track's scribbled, multi-coloured artwork, which left fans guessing if he's releasing another album.
Ed wrote: "11am GMT tomorrow. A Christmas present."
A year ago, after he found out his wife Cherry was expecting their first child, Ed confirmed that he was taking a "break" from music and social media.
He told fans: "Hello all. Gonna go on another break again.
“The Divide era and tour changed my life in so many ways, but now it’s all over it’s time to go out and see some more of the world.
“I’ve been a bit non-stop since 2017 so I’m just gonna take a breather to travel, write and read.
“I’ll be off all social media until it’s time to come back.
“To my family and friends, see ya when I see ya, and to my fans, thank you for always being amazing. I promise to be back with some new music when the time is right, and I’ve lived a little more to actually have something to write about.”
Then in September 2020, the happy couple welcomed baby Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran into the world.
He marked the special day with an Instagram snap of an adorable pair of baby socks placed neatly on one of his daughter's blankets.
Ed told fans: "Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you…
"Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
"We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here.
"We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed x."
