Ellen DeGeneres has confirmed she is set to pull the plug on her self-named talk show after 18 seasons, after accusations that she allowed a toxic work environment.

Following 18 seasons on the air and huge ratings, the talk-show host is expected to make an announcement explaining why she’s pulling the plug today, according to The Daily Mail.

The publication have said that a source told them it’s because Ellen "has had enough and told her team that she’s done".

The insider said: "She's promised one more season after this one and will exit at the end of the 2021/2022 season. The 19th season of the show."

"The ratings have tanked," the source continued, "and have been truly appalling this year and Ellen knows her time is up."

The Daily Mail also reported that the Ellen insider said the show has "bled" viewers ever since the claims around the set being "toxic" came to light.

It comes as several former and current employees of The Ellen Show accused the 63-year-old host of ignoring "bullying" by executives.

The employees in question also accused the star of fostering a "toxic" work environment in general.

The ratings for total American households over the last year have plummeted ever since.

In huge cities like Chicago and New York, viewership has been lost by 40-50 per cent.

And in Los Angeles the show lost a whopping 59 per cent of viewers.

She told her fans at the time: "I learned that things happen here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously. And I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected."

"I know that I'm in a position of privilege and power, and I realise that with that comes responsibility," the long-time comedian continued. "I take responsibility for what happens at my show.

"This is me and my intention is to always be the best person I can be, and if I've ever let someone down, if I've ever hurt their feelings, I am so sorry for that."

Ellen went on to say that if she's ever hurt anyone then she's hurt and let herself too, because she always tries "to grow as a person".

"I look at everything that comes into my life as an opportunity to learn. I got into this business to make people laugh and feel good, that's my favourite thing to do," the star added.
