Escape to the Chateau is back with season eight, airing a new episode every Sunday evening. The wholesome hit series is just as much about Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree’s family life as it is about their renovations. In the new series of the Channel 4 show, the couple had been getting a new roof on the chateau. Viewers at home saw Angel Adoree in shock after the discovery of a secret room was uncovered.

Dick announced: “Ta-da. This is the top of the house!”

In awe, wife Angel said: “Oh my goodness me!”

The Escape to the Chateau star added: “I did not know this was up here!”

To which Dick shortly remarked: “It’s quite a big room, isn’t it?”

Still amazed by the secret room, the 43-year-old designer said: “Honestly, I thought, when you said there was a little attic.”

She added: “I thought it was something you couldn’t stand up in. It’s beautiful up here!”

At 21 metres up, the room they were standing in was the highest point of the chateau.

Dick had planned to use the newly discovered room as a storage space, but his wife had other ideas.

The vintage-clad redhead began to map out the room in her mind, she said: “I understand that we need to plasterboard it, insulate it etc, but I’d hate to get rid of all this shape.”

Dick seemed unconvinced as he muttered: “Mm, okay.”

The keen crafter claimed: “That’s just covering over the character.”

The father of two diverted the conversation after he asked Steve: “Right mate, how [are] we getting on?”

Angel began to imagine how the room would be fit for something far more luxurious than a storage space.

Angel turned to face her husband and asked him: “Can we have a sky bar in here?”

The DIY guru didn’t respond and continued to look out at the views from the window, to which Angel and their friend Steve began to giggle.

Hoping to quickly steer the conversation away from Angel’s celestial suggestion, the engineer uttered: “The pointing doesn’t look terrible on that.”

The fabric designer began to visualise the room with a “balcony and a big telescope” to admire the views.

To his excitement, Steve also began to share his thoughts, he revealed: “You can get Velux balconies, can’t you? They lift up and the bottom bit comes out, so you can stand out on it.”

Dick in jest, said: “Three times I’ve ignored her. The third time you start telling her about the balconies that open up.”

Angel was left in hysterics and pointed out: “You didn’t bring me up here just in case I came up with an idea.”

Escape to the Chateau continues Sundays at 8pm on Channel 4
