Gladiators set for explosive TV comeback to mark show’s 30th anniversary

The Gladiators are set to make a TV comeback to mark the show’s 30th anniversary.

The ITV Saturday night show – which began in 1992 and was presented by John Fashanu and Ulrika Jonsson – was a huge hit and made household names of Gladiators such as Jet, Amazon, Wolf, Zodiac and Ace.

In 2022 the show reaches its landmark birthday and Jet – real name Diane Youdale – has revealed talks have started about bringing back the telly favourites to mark the special occasion.

"There will be something," she said.

"We don't know it is yet, none of us do.

"I'm hoping ITV you to do something to celebrate our 30th, otherwise it will be like, you know, reaching your one of your big zero birthdays and no one's remembered.

"There's not even a party with a bloody party hat or a balloon anywhere in sight. I want the balloons to be shaped like pugil sticks!"

Though Jet, 50, is hopeful talks with ITV will lead to a reunion programme the Gladiators will still mark their anniversary even if those plans fall through.

"I’d like to be something to honour the huge fan base that's still out there for the show," she said.

"It would be amazing to do something like a number of events, I don't know, like a comic con but with all the Glads – Gladiator Con.”

Jet left in 1996 after suffering a broken neck whilst competing in one of the events but is immensely proud of her time on the programme.

"I'm so grateful for it," she said.

"It was a very honest show, an authentic show and everybody loves that and it was full of so much glamour and pace and honesty.

"Each contender was literally running and fighting their hearts out for that prize of being the winning contender and they were so inspirational.

"We are proud to say that we were Gladiators."
