Law and Order’s main series has been off screens since 2010 and while there have been numerous spin-offs, fans have always wanted to see the original show come back. NBC has now confirmed when the revival season will premiere. Picking up where season 20 left off, the show promises to be nostalgic but also focus on the next step in the franchise.

When does Law and Order return for season 21?

After many years of hope and speculation, NBC’s revival of Law and Order finally has a release date.

Season 21 will premiere on February 24, 2022 at 8pm EST on NBC.

It will kick off a Law and Order triple marathon on Thursday nights, as it will be followed by SVU and Organised Crime at 9pm and 10pm, respectively.

As for a UK release, NBC has not confirmed when and where it could premiere.

Typically, new seasons of SVU and Organised Crime have aired on Sky and NOW.

It is likely this will be the case again, with the landscape of television changing significantly since the show first ended in 2010.

To see the show on NOW, viewers will need to pay for the Entertainment package which costs £9.99 per month.

NOW also offers a seven-day free trial to any new subscribers to the platform.

Will the original cast return?

One of the main questions surrounding the revival is whether or not the original cast will be making a comeback.

While most fans certainly hope to see some familiar faces, NBC currently hasn’t made any casting announcements involving the original stars.

Original cast members who could make a return include S Epatha Merkerson as Anita Van Buren, Sam Waterson as Jack McCoy, Leslie Hendrix as Elizabeth Rodgers, and Alana De La Garza as Connie Rubirosa.

One cast member who has been announced is Burn Notice’s Jeffrey Donovan, who will be playing an NYPD detective, a newcomer to the series.

What will the revival be about?

Specific plot points on the show have not been revealed yet, with no characters, locations, or plot threads from the first series being teased.

However, in a recent interview with Variety, series creator Dick Wolf did reveal “it’s the same Law & Order everyone knows from the first 20 years”.

Wolf continued: “So there’s really nothing to fix, we just want to continue telling great stories. Casting as always will be three cops and three DAs.

“We always approach storytelling the same way: Good writing, acting and production values, and give the viewers what they want. That’s been our mantra from day one.”

Much like SVU and Organised Crime, season 21 will likely include various crossovers.

The most likely candidate for a crossover is Elliot Stabler (played by Christopher Meloni).

His character has crossed over into nearly every show in the franchise and originally debuted in the main series.

Nothing is currently confirmed though, with none of the original stars commenting on the revival.

Law and Order season 21 will premiere on February 24, 2022 at 8pm EST in the USA. A UK release date has not yet been confirmed.
