Comic book enthusiasts were finally given some more insight into Marvel’s latest addition, the Loki variant known as Sylvie (played by Sophia Di Martino). However, the Disney+ series about the God of Mischief caught some flack from fans this week when they realised the third episode, ‘Lamentis’, was just over half an hour long.
Disney+ subscribers had their feathers ruffled on Wednesday when they sat down to watch the 41-minute long third episode of Loki.
Previous instalments had exceeded 50 minutes, including credits, leaving viewers to believe the total runtime of the series would clock in at around five hours.
Reactions to the latest offering were largely positive, but many have branded the third chapter of the series as ‘filler’ due to its shortened runtime.
Although TVA Agent Loki (Tom Hiddleston) found out more about his enchanting new companion, Sylvie, others felt the episode diverted too far from the main plot at this crucial stage in the series.
Once the episode had been released to streamers, Marvel fans took to social media to level their complaints.
One Twitter user said: “I had to log off Twitter because my feed was full of Loki spoilers but WHY WAS THE EPISODE SHORT I BARELY HAD TIME TO GRASP WHAT’S HAPPENING.”
And a second added: “But like literally it was only 35 minutes in a six EPISODE SERIES that’s wayyyy too short wtf #loki.”
Fans have already noted the lengthy credits in previous Marvel series, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Due to the shows’ extensive production and international teams, each new Marvel offering stretches the runtime by several minutes in order to give everyone the credit they deserve.
Unfortunately, this meant Loki and Sylvie’s escape from Lamentis was cut short by an unexpected cliffhanger when the episode came to an end after 35 minutes or so.
Over on Reddit, another fan commented: “Worst episode so far of the three.
“Not bad, just kind of a boring mission with them walking everywhere and then a huge cliffhanger. Also no Owen Wilson and the shortest episode yet.”

Though they also admitted: “Still just as excited for next Wednesday.”
TVA Judge Ravonna Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) did have a brief appearance, but much of the audience was missing Agent Mobius’ (Owen Wilson) laid back counterpoint to Loki’s time-hopping chaos.
And a final fan added: “This episode felt way too short, I definitely thought there was more after the ark explodes.”
Loki and Sylvie’s daring escape from the doomed moon Lamentis-1 was scuppered when the ark that would have saved them was destroyed.
While fans were expecting at least ten minutes of action to follow, they began to fume when they realised they’ll have to wait a whole week to find out what happens next.
Thankfully, the revealing trailers for the new series could provide some answers, as one shot features Sylvie and Loki having accepted their fate on Lamentis-1.
However, the two tricksters won’t be going out without a fight, so expect one or both of them to have a couple more magic tricks up their sleeves when the series returns.
