Eagle-eyed Love Island fans have claimed they already knew Liam Reardon and Millie Court were going to win the final due to the position they stood next to presenter Laura Whitmore.

Judging from previous series, viewers predicted that whoever stands on the presenter's left during the big reveal will win the show.

Monday night's final was no exception to this, as Liam and Millie secured the most votes from the public and was standing in the lucky spot once the news was revealed.

In previous series of the popular dating show, Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay, Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey and Jess Hayes and Max Morley were all placed in the same position in front of the studio audience before their win was announced.

This also took place during last year's final, which saw Finley Tapp and Paige Turley win the first ever Winter Love Island.

However, in 2019 Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea stood on the right-hand side of presenter Caroline Flack and scooped the win, despite only dating for 12 days while inside the villa.

On Monday's dramatic final, Liam and Millie managed to beat Teddy Soares and Faye Winter, Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank and Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran to the prize.

Liam also made Millie his girlfriend live on the show, which she described as a "cute" move.

Once the pair were announced as winners, Laura Whitmore then presented them with two envelopes and asked them whether they would split the £50,000 cash fund with their partner if they were to receive it in their slip.

Opening her envelope, Millie obtained the prize money while Liam had nothing in his. But without hesitation, Millie decided to split the cash with Liam.

Although it was a happy moment for the twosome, viewers at home thought the format had become tired. While some begged Millie to keep the prize money for herself.

Taking to Twitter, fans aired their thoughts.

One fan penned: "Can they change it so then the winner can either have the money or love, not both? That would way more interesting."

Another commented: "I want one of the future winners do just take all the money and go home lol."

While a third wrote: "The only way the love island final could've redeemed itself is if Millie took the money."

Love Island will return to ITV2 in 2022.
