Nikki Sanderson opens up about ‘fun’ Corrie return as hairdresser Candice

Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson has opened up about returning to Coronation Street as ditsy hairdresser Candice Stowe.

The soap star, 35, currently plays single mum Maxine Miniver on Hollyoaks, and made a surprise comeback to the cobbles earlier this year.

Nikki soared to fame when she played the Candice for six years and made a surprise comeback to Weatherfield to mark the work anniversary of Sue Nicholls, who plays her former salon boss Audrey Roberts.

In an interview with the Daily Star , Nikki admitted: "It was so much fun to go back to Corrie."

"It was wonderful to go for the day and see some people that I used to work with on and off camera," she added.

"A lot of people I used to work with are still there and it was really nice to bump into them."

The actress made her Corrie stint in 1999 – where she played Sarah Platt's (Tina O'Brien) best friend until 2005.

In a bid to surprise Audrey Roberts, who is played by Sue Nicholls, 75, Nikki made an unexpected return to the character's hair salon alongside former Corrie co-star Tracy Shaw, 46, who played Maxine Peacock.

Sue, who has just celebrated 40 years on the soap, was left stunned for words as Nikki and Tracy turned up on set.

The sweet reunion was part of an ITV special to mark Audrey's milestone in Weatherfield.

Nikki has been on TV screens for over two decades, and says she feels "grateful" to still be doing the job she loves.

She said: "I love being on TV. I love acting, either on stage or TV, and I couldn't see myself doing anything else."
