Only 1 Episode of 'Full House' Was Actually Filmed in San Fransisco

Characters Michelle, Stephanie, and DJ Tanner grew up in San Francisco. When it comes to where the cast of Full House recorded episodes, though, the cast members were actually located in a different part of California.

Here’s what we know about the only episode of this sitcom that was shot in San Francisco.

‘Full House’ takes place in San Francisco, although most episodes weren’t filmed there

It’s a pretty large family, but there’s a lot of love. Fans first met the Tanners with the 1980s series, Full House. There, one reporter, named Danny Tanner, required the help of his two best friends to raise his three daughters after the death of his wife.

The family was based in San Francisco, with the girls going to school there and growing up in that same family home. They even adopted a dog that was born in their home — the girls named him Comet.

For several episodes, the Tanners even traveled to other destinations for filming. Two episodes took place in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. For one family vacation, the Tanners even traveled to Hawaii.

Comet appears in several episodes of ‘Full House’

When it comes to the filming location of the sitcom, however, these cast members weren’t actually based in San Fransisco. According to Rob on Location, “Full House was filmed at Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank from 1987 to 1995.”

The only episode filmed in San Francisco was season 8’s premiere, titled “Comet’s Excellent Adventure.” In it, Uncle Jesse gave Michelle permission to walk Comet by herself, even though Danny said no because of her size. After Comet gets distracted by a hot dog truck, he runs away from Michelle.

The rest of the family embarks on a San Fransisco-themed adventure to try and get their dog back. They eventually do, with Comet returning for several episodes of this sitcom. He was there when Jesse and Joey needed inspiration for their jingles and he was there when Stephanie was sad.

The Tanners adopt another dog in the Netflix series, ‘Fuller House’

The Full House house, however, the one featured in the title sequence, is located in San Francisco. Now a few decades since the premiere of this series, it has undergone several renovations but has even become a tourist attraction for fans of the sitcom.

Although Comet did not make a reappearance for the Netflix spinoff, Fuller House, the Tanners adopted another dog who was a direct descendant of Comet. Technically, the dog became Max Fuller’s responsibility, with the character naming the dog Cosmo.

Most episodes of Full House, some even featuring Comet, are available for streaming on Hulu. All five seasons of the Netflix original spinoff series, Fuller House, are available on the streaming platform, Netflix.
