Strictly Come Dancing 2021 is on BBC One and it has been the highlight of viewers’ weekends. The celebrities have been matched with their professional partners and they have had a few weeks to get to know each other. BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker has been called out as the father figure.
Strictly 2021 has returned as a staple part of the BBC’s autumn schedule and the competition is already heating up.
This weekend, the couples will perform for the first time during a live show and they will be critiqued by the judging panel.
Although everyone is out to win, the celebs have formed a special bond and have created their own WhatsApp group.
Some of the stars agreed that breakfast show host Dan Walker was the “most fun” and acted as a “father figure”.
Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media, actor Greg Wise said: “Everyone seems really sweet, we have now got our WhatsApp group together.
“Dan Walker set it up. He’s sort of our tailor of the group and Sara [Davies] takes the notes.
“So we have very much got mum and dad. Everyone seems terribly sweet, we all messaged each other for the first time yesterday.”
Meanwhile, Loose Women star Judi Love said Dan was the most fun in the group chat.
She added: “I’m one of the bad ones in the WhatsApp group where it takes me a while to get back but when I’m in it, I’m in it for five minutes strong.
“Yeah, Dan is the most fun, without a doubt.”
Dan has been called out previously for giving away too much about the series when he announced the show’s start date.
He let the air date slip before it had officially been announced by BBC bosses and was nicknamed ‘Strictly Leaks’.
The star said on BBC Breakfast: “I meet and greet the partner in a couple of days time, and actually the first show is on the 18th and then the live shows start on the 25th.”
His slip-up was taken on the chin and he is excited to get the competition started and bond with his fellow competitors.
Dan himself spoke to his former co-host Louise Minchin on BBC Breakfast about being the father figure.
He said: “I have been in these situations before. I don’t’ worry about things like this but I know it’s really easy to get a bit anxious and concerned about what’s going to happen or what you’re going to be asked.
“So I set up the WhatsApp group up, everyone wanted to be involved and it’s been lovely to share pictures, share a few concerns and have a good laugh.”
Dan is on Instagram and he has been sharing updates from his Strictly experience so far with his followers.
The presenter, who has been paired with Nadiya Bychkova, said: “Delighted to be dancing with an actual World Record Holder.
“Didn’t know what a ‘fleckerl’ was 10 minutes ago but… she is a Fleckerl Queen with 25 in 30 seconds.”
In another post, he was seen looking exhausted, laying down on the floor, and he said: “She actually broke me yesterday.
“I got down there to stretch and I was long gone. 3am starts got me in the end.”
His professional partner offered some sweet words of encouragement, responding: “You are absolutely amazing partner, not sure I ever saw anyone in my life working as hard as you do.
“Grateful to have you as my partner!” The pair’s first dance will be a quickstep to Everybody Needs Somebody To Love by The Blues Brothers.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One on Saturday, September 25.
